The Swiss Family Robinson

Posted by smspodcasts on 29th May 2008

(Connor) In this episode of SMS podcasts me, Connor, (Caleb) and me, Caleb, are going to tell you about a book called The Swiss Family Robinson.

In this book a reverend and his family set sail to settle on a new land. But when they get shipwrecked on an island they can’t survive on there own. They have to face lions and quicksand on their journey to settle in on the strange island. But when they have their chance to go back to Switzerland will they take it or stay on the island forever.

This book is okay but I would rate a 2 or 3. It was pretty cheesy. This book was pretty bad in my opinion but…

We hope you enjoyed this version of SMS podcasts brought to you by Connor  and Caleb. See ya!

Magyk

Posted by smspodcasts on 22nd May 2008

Hi! I’m Robin, and I’m Mackenzie. Do you like Harry Potter Books? Then you’ll love the book Magyk, by Angie Sage. It is about a lost princess, a supposedly dead son, and a family called the Heaps. The Heaps are a wizard family, just like many people in their village. One evening, Silas Heap, the father, is walking home, when he stumbles upon a bundle of blankets. He surprised to find that there is a baby inside the blankets! He takes her home, and raises her as his child. What he doesn’t know is that she is the daughter of the dead Queen. On that same night, Silas’s baby son dies. Or at least that’s what everyone thinks happens. You’ll have to read this book to find out what has become of baby Septimus, and if the princess ever finds out her true identity. This book holds magic, murder, and so much more. You won’t be able to put it down! Here’s two of our favorite parts: (Tantalizing Tidbit) I hope you enjoy this book as much as we did! Once again, I’m Robin, and I’m Mackenzie! Bye!

Killing Mr. Griffin

Posted by smspodcasts on 21st May 2008

K- Hey welcome to our awesome podcast for Killing Mr. Griffin. I’m Kayla and I’m Erin. The plot of this story is about five students who have a really mean English teacher named Mr. Griffin.

E- Susan, Mark, Jeff, Betsy, and David get so sick of him, that they decide to play a little prank on him.

K- They kidnap Mr. Griffin and leave him in the mountains to shake him up a bit.

E- But when David and Susan go back to take him home, they find him dead!

K- Susan thinks the prank has gone too far, and wants to go to the police with the story.

E- But the rest of the group who took part in the kidnapping, and especially Mark, the leader, don’t want to get in any trouble.

K- They bury him in the mountains, where they left him overnight, but when Mark’s ex-girlfriend comes back for Spring Break, she wants to explore.

E- The situation heats up when his ex-girlfriend leads the police to the site that she thought was suspicious. There was an area of land by a waterfall in the mountains, that she always used to visit, that looked to be dug up.

K- Now here is an interview with Susan between Mr. Baca. Susan asked to have a conference with Mr. Griffin after school, to make sure the parking lot was clear when they kidnapped him. Susan was the last person to see Mr. Griffin, so the police and Mr. Griffin’s wife were suspicious of her.

E(Mr. Baca)- “So Susan did you see anything suspicious when you were talking to Mr. Griffin about your grade?”

K(Susan)- “No… he just kept looking down at his watch… like he was in a hurry or something.”

E(Mr. Baca)- Susan, according to Mrs. Griffin her husband takes his students very seriously. She said she had nothing planned with her husband, so it doesn’t seem logic that he was in a hurry to be somewhere. Even stranger, Mrs. Griffin told us that his watch was not with him at the time. It was at home broken!”

K(Susan)- Well… he may not have told his wife about something. Maybe he kept his plans from her.

E(Mr. Baca)- “It’s a possibility. But then what do you have to say about the watch?”

K(Susan)- “I…I don’t know.”

E(Mr. Baca)- “Susan, your story doesn’t match up.”

K(Susan)- I don’t know Mr. Griffin very personally. All I did was have a conference with him and I went home right after.”

E(Mr. Baca)- “This isn’t a game Susan. We’ll find out the truth whether you tell me or not.”

K- This story is a cliffhanger, and it keeps you reading right up to the end, when you find out what really happens to Mr. Griffin. Mark will do anything to keep the accident secret, even if it means killing anybody in his way. David’s grandmother begins to get suspicious, and could end up his victim.

E-Will Mark have the nerve to kill a threat? Will Susan rat out the group? Will they really keep Mr. Griffin’s death a secret?

K-This book had amazing description and this is just one of the tantalizing tidbits in this story. TANTALIZING TIDBITS

E- We hope you are excited to read this book, and we hope you actually do!

K- This book is amazing, and you won’t want to wait to see what happens at the end!

E- We hope you enjoyed our podcast!

BOTH- SEE YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
